The Coliseum Construction began on the Coliseum in 1953. In September 1955 the building was opened and dedicated as the Charlotte Coliseum. At the time, it was the largest unsupported dome in the world and the first free-spanning dome in the United States. The Coliseum celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2015. I have attended many events here including the Circus, Harlem Globe Trotters, Graduations, Rock Concerts and the current occupants, Charlotte Checkers games. What have you seen here? Bojangles

Strange being here on such a hot day. It's usually a cold winter evening.

I'm a Charlotte native. the history of this facility runs DEEP in my family. My grandfather worked security here in the 50s as a side job when he worked for the city of Charlotte. I've seen so many events in this building, and no matter what I will still ALWAYS refer to this place as "The Old Coliseum"
